Studies on the Variation of Plasma and Urine Catecholamine Levels in Acute Myocardial Infaraction
Kang Seung-Ho

Abstract
Most investigators have studied the effect of the sympathoadrenal system in patients with acute myocardial infarction and observed the activation of the sympathoadrenal system and manifested by an augmented urinary excretion of them.
However, few articles were reported which compared the plasma level of catecholamines and their urinary excretion with the clinical course of myocardial infarction.
Therefore, author determinates plasma epinephrine and norepinephrine, urinary excretion of them in acute myocardial infarction and observed the relations between them and clinical courses.
The results are as follow:
1) The mean plasma epinephrine levels at the stage of acute attack in myocardial infarction revealed 0.24¡¾0.11r%, 0.21?0.14 r% after 72 hours and 0.19¡¾0.13 r% 5 days after admission, and there was no significant difference compared with normal plasma epinephrine level 0.20?0.12 r%
2) The mean plasma norepinephrine levels at the stage of acute attack in myocardial infarction revealed 0.55¡¾0.22 r% which is significantly higher compared with normal plasma norepinephrine level; whereas 72 hours and 5 days after admission, plasma norepinephrine levels, 0.25?0.12 r% and 0 23¡¾0.12 r% are returned to almost normal level.
3) The mean urinary epinephrine levels at acute attack of myocardial infarction revealed 17.7?0.3 r/day, 15.9¡¾0.4 r/day after 72 hours and 14.1?0.4 r/day on 5 days after admission, which are not significantly different statistically compare with normal mean urinary epinephrine level 14.5?0.3 r/ day.
4) The mean urinary norepinephrine level at acute attack of myocardial infarction revealed 46.1¡¾0.4 r/ day which was significantly higher compared with normal urinary level of norepinephrine 28.2¡¾0.2 r/ day whereas the urinary norepinephrine level at 72 hours after admission and on the 5 days after admission revealed 29.7¡¾0.2 r/day and 26.1¡¾0.2 r/day which were reclined to normal levels.
